remembrance, deer three ways (2020)

Fabric, paper, documentation of a found deer, orange thread, words

Towards the end of 2020, I turned to my film camera as a way to re-frame my understanding of place in the context of the pandemic. On one photo excursion, I documented the body of a deer that had been hit by a car. In that moment, I saw the deer as a metaphor for the life lost in vain to COVID. Unnecessary death, a cruel accident. I mixed the photographs of this deer with poetry and textile collages, to create a visual narrative that touched on those feelings of loss and isolation.
